KOTA KINABALU: Staff of People Development Leader Unit have been urged to display a high level of commitment and hard work when defending the ruling party and government.

Sabah unit director, Datuk Japlin Akim, said unit staff are valued highly as they worked at the frontline to defend the ruling party, that is, Barisan Nasional (BN).

Japlin stressed on the importance placed on unit staff, as they are responsible to defend their respective wakil rakyats (elected representatives).

“We have sufficient unit staff in Sabah; 750 for all the mukims and villages,” he said at the launching ceremony for the re-branding of the People Development Leaders Unit (UPKR), also known as Unit Pemimpin Kemajuan Rakyat, to unit or Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat here on Wednesday.

The event was graced by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman.

In conjunction with the re-branding exercise, Japlin said, he has visited 60 constituencies in Sabah and he urged unit staff there to show high a high level of commitment and hard work in order to safeguard the ruling party.

“In order to be more efficient, we have adopted a new mission, that is to become a sustainable and efficient political machinery by 2018.”

Japlin said the mission that the unit staff strived for would be to ensure BN’s victory in the 14th General Election.

He said that the unit would give its strongest support to Musa, whose leadership has led to political stability in Sabah, besides having one of the best budget, reserve funds and financial management amongst other states in Malaysia.

Japlin also said that Musa has approved an allocation for uniforms for all unit staff in Sabah.
