KINABATANGAN: Two suspects were detained by the police here on suspicion of being involved in the killing of a man at a plantation estate off Jalan Jeroco near Lahad Daru.
According to the Kinabatangan police chief Superintendent A. Sahak bin Rahmat, both suspects, who are Indonesians aged 25 and 31 years old, were detained around 5.30pm yesterday at an unnumbered house in Kampung Dewata, Lahad Datu.
Initial investigation revealed that the suspects, who did not possess any valid documents, had admitted being involved in the killing of the man, who was found with several slash wounds.
The victim, in his 30s, was believed killed for stealing a cow. He was found lying at the roadside off Ladang Block 14, Division 15, Ladang Land Worthy, Jalan Jeroco, Kinabatangan around 10 am on September 27.
From the initial inspection of the victim’s body, police found that the man had died from slash wounds on his face, back of his head and body.
Police also found that the sling bag carried by the victim was unzipped and empty. Among the evidence found at the scene were a red motorcycle, a brown sling bag, brown shoes, a machete inside the motorcycle’s basket, black jacket, hair and a cigarette butt.
Sahak said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
