TAWAU: Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching has described Budget 2015 as holistic because the allocation for the ministry covers all levels of schooling up to the tertiary level.
She said the RM52.36 billion for the ministry or 23.4 per cent of the total budget allocation showed the government realised how important education was as the main pillar of national development, and was focusing on this sector.
“The allocation covers all levels from pre-school until higher education including the teacher training institutions, polytechnics and community colleges with focus on research,” she said after officiating at a Pink Ribbon Run at Padang Bandaran, here yesterday.
Yap said the budget was also in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 and National Higher Education Strategic Plan 2007-2020, which were the keys to realising Malaysia’s aspiration to be a developed, high-income nation by 2020.
“I also wish to thank the federal government for increasing the allocation to improve facilities at all national-type schools, which shows that the government listens to the voice of the rakyat (people),” she said.
On the Pink Ribbon Run, Yap said it it was important to raise public awareness on the need for early screening and treatment for breast cancer in order to save lives from the disease. — Bernama
