KOTA KINABALU: About 90 per cent of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in Sabah will be on duty during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said only 10 per cent from the police force was allowed to take their Raya holidays while the rest would be on duty as instructed by the Inspector General of Police

“Instructions have been issued to all district police chiefs, heads of departments, including myself, to be on duty and to celebrate the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri with our officers and personnel.

“This is to ensure fairness for those who will be working during the holidays.

“I have therefore instructed all district police chiefs to be at their respective headquarters or stations to be on duty and celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their men,” he said after handing out Raya goodies to all district police chiefs at the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan here, yesterday.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had on July 29 said more than 50,000 police officers and personnel in the country had their holidays frozen in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Khalid said about 5,000 traffic police would be tasked with smoothing traffic flows during the holidays while all policemen would ensure Ops Selamat IV would continue to decline.
