KOTA KINABALU: The developer of Kota Kinabalu Convention Centre (KKCC), Mah Sing Group Berhad, is keen on tapping into the rapid growth in the housing development sector in Sabah.

Its executive director, Datuk Lim Kiu Kock, said there is a high demand for houses, especially affordable home units, and the group would be more than willing to contribute towards satisfying the needs of the house buyers here.

“I observe that Sabah could still use a lot of affordable homes and since we also develop housing projects in Peninsular Malaysia, we are also interested in bringing our projects here,” he told reporters at the group’s 20th anniversary celebration and launch of KKCC Sales Gallery here yesterday.

Lim said the group had started looking for sites suitable for their projects, adding that the sustained vibrancy in property sector in Sabah had given them confidence to carry out more projects here.

The group, which is also the developer of Sutera Avenue, believed that Sabah’s economy would continue to grow and being supported by continuous growth in tourism and stable property market, he said.

Also present were Mah Sing Group Director A R Melvin Kiandee and Corporate and Communication General Manager Lyanna Tew.

Meanwhile, Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir when officiating at the event earlier, said the increasingly growing property sector in Sabah was driven by the State’s inherent strengths, namely strategic location, rich resources, diversified culture and rich biology.

“Hence, it is no doubt that major players in the property development industry, such as Mah Sing, is venturing into Sabah. As a gateway to Borneo, there is close to 150 direct non-stop international flights to Kota Kinabalu International Airport daily.

“The easy accessibility has encouraged West Malaysians and foreigners to travel to Kota Kinabalu frequently, and subsequently buy properties here,” he said.

On another note, Abidin reminded developers, architects and engineers involved in hillside development projects to adhere to all guidelines developed by the City Hall and other regulating agencies, to avoid any arising problems for them as well as the tenants of the property in the future.

Due to the shortage of flat lands, he said developers were now increasingly interested in developing hillside property projects – mostly condominiums and high-rise buildings.
