TAWAU: Tawau marine police (PPM) seized 170 bags of ammonium nitrate fertiliser from being smuggled into a neighbouring country yesterday evening.
Sabah PPM regional commander ACP Mohamad Madun said the bags, weighing 25 kilogrammes each, were confiscated from a boat driven by a 43-year-old Indonesian man after it was stopped by the PPM patrol team in the waters of Sabindo at 5.15 pm yesterday.
“The team was conducting a routine patrol of the area when they spotted the wooden boat moving suspiciously before asking the skipper to stop for an inspection,” he said in a statement here today.
The value of the fertiliser and the boat was estimated at RM37,000.
Meanwhile, the Semporna PPM team arrested a 73-year-old illegal immigrant with 26 barrels of subsidised petrol in the waters of Ambo Ambo, Semporna, at 1 pm yesterday. — BERNAMA
