PENAMPANG: A 37-year-old pillion rider was killed when the motorcycle she was riding with her husband was knocked down by a four-wheel-drive vehicle at the entrance to Taman Selesa, Kapayan, near the traffic light junction at Jalan Pintas-Jalan Lintas ring road yesterday.
The pillion rider, identified as Raidah Lumambai from Delayan Lama, Keningau, died on the spot from serious head injuries.
Her husband, 38, also suffered injuries and was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
Their motorcycle was making a U-turn into the feeder road to Taman Selesa when the accident happened. The impact threw the couple several metres from the spot.
Penampang district police chief, DSP Ratan Kumar Singh, said the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle has been remanded to facilitate police investigation.
He said the victim’s body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem along with her husband who was admitted to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Singh is urging eyewitness to the incident to come forward to assist police in their investigation which is being carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
