KOTA KINABALU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah will be holding a fund-raising dinner in solidarity with its suspended Likas assemblyman Junz Wong.
Junz, who was suspended for six months starting last July from the State Legislative Assembly after a motion to shelve him was tabled and passed by the House, said that the event is aimed at seeking funds to run his constituency, taking into account that his suspension resulted in him not receiving any income during the period.
“There is no shame in doing this. We believe that the suspension was a political suppression. The people know very well our party had been using all funds collected solely for the interest of the people.
“It’s just that some are ‘haters’ and seek on prying on any issues to complain about,” he said, referring to rival party, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP)’s recent comments about him, questioning his motives for fund raising.
“They don’t understand, because they don’t have an elected representative in their party. They don’t understand how things running a constituency work,” said Junz at a press conference held at the DAP headquarters at Jalan Bundusan, Penampang, yesterday
He added that DAP had proven to have fulfilled its promises throughout each of its fund-raising dinners and remained true to its pledge to help the people.
Hence, there was no need to reply to the comments by SAPP, urging the public to continue supporting the party, as they have been “walking the talk,” he said.
Meanwhile, Junz also announced the formation of DAPSY Sabah’s executive committee after years of operating on a divisional basis.
The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) had conducted its first annual ordinary convention on September 28, at the DAP Sabah headquarters office and Junz was elected as chairman of DAPSY Sabah. The convention speaker was Tangkak assemblyman Ee Chin Li, and all the candidates won their positions without contest.
The convention was officiated by DAPSY National Secretary cum Mengkibol assemblyman Tan Hong Pin, and witnessed by DAP Sabah secretary cum Kapayan assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi.
More than 30 delegates and observers from four divisions namely Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Batu Sapi and Tawau attended the convention and the new line-up of state committee of DAPSY Sabah was officially formed after the first meeting of DAPSY Sabah State Committee meeting.
Ee and Tan who were also present at the press conference yesterday, urged more young people to get involved in politics making DAP as their platform of choice.
Youths aged 35 and below are called to join the party, which Tan said has proven to be a party that puts forward youths considering that it is spearheaded by at least 40 per cent of members under the age of 40.
The fund-raising dinner will be held on October 25 from 7pm at Grand Port View, Kota Kinabalu. Tickets are now available at RM60, RM100, and RM200 respectively. For further details, contact Henry Shim at 017-896 2170 or the party’s headquarters at 088-712 867.
DAP’s top leaders namely Lim Kit Siang, Dyana Sofya and others will be present and speak at the fund-raising event.
