KOTA KINABALU: The government appreciates the role of teachers in building up human capital, promoting racial harmony and elevating the quality of education in the country to a world class level.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said the contribution by the teachers was in line with the government’s endeavour through the National Education Blueprint 2013-2025 to transform the country’s education system.
“This year’s Teachers Day theme, ‘Malaysian Teachers: 1Aspiration, 1Agenda’ reflects the hopes of the people for a ‘future generation of excellence’ for our country,” he said at the Penampang-level Teachers Day celebration and excellent service award presentation, here yesterday.
Yahya said teachers could reciprocate the people’s confidence in them by constantly enhancing their work performance.
“Among the main factors that could spur the national education transformation programme towards success are ‘super character’ teachers and great schools,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Penampang Tokoh Guru (outstanding teacher) Award was presented to Hajah Wan Noriah Wan Musa, while 146 teachers received Excellent Service awards, and five people received the Education Department’s Special Award.
