KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said a total of 42 calls were received from marine police personnel, Police Constable Zakia Aleip since he was kidnapped in Pulau Mabul, Semporna on July 12.
Jalaluddin said the calls which were made to the constable’s family members were monitored by the police.
“He was given a room to make telephone calls to his wife, parents, family members as well as a police officer,” he told reporters at a handing-over of duties ceremony for the state CID chief and deputy chief at the police headquarters in Kepayan in Kota Kinabalu, Monday.
Jalaluddin said, through the telephone calls, the victim said the kidnappers were always on the move as they were being pursued by Filipino authorities.
The police commissioner said the victim was safe and in good health while negotiations to release him were still in progress.
In the incident at 11.10pm on July 12, Zakia, 26, was kidnapped by a group of men during an ambush. Another police personnel, Ab Rajah Jamuan, 32, was killed in Pulau Mabul.
At the ceremony, Sabah CID acting chief, SAC Mohd Shariff Abd Wahid handed over his duties to SAC Salehhudin Abd Rahman who was previously Melaka Tengah police chief. –BERNAMA
