KOTA KINABALU: Malaysians should fly the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ national flag with pride and of their own free will to demonstrate their patriotism, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said yesterday.

He said it was unnecessary for the government to organise annual events and campaigns for the people to fly the Jalur Gemilang or the state flag.
“Independence month this year, which is being celebrated during the Aidilfitri period, should be celebrated with a sense of gratitude and it is needless to organise large campaigns.
“Instead, we should strengthen unity and live a life of peace and harmony,” he said at the launch of the state-level Independence Day celebrations and a campaign to fly the Jalur Gemilang, here.
Musa said the public could participate in the campaign by flying the national flag as a sign of their appreciation and gratitude towards the nation.
The campaign to fly the Jalur Gemilang began today and would be held for two months until Oct 4, the official birthday of Sabah’s Yang Dipertua Negeri.
Earlier, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and chairman of the Independence Day Celebrations Main Committee Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said the theme of the celebrations “Malaysia: Here Lies a Love” was appropriate as it emphasised the importance of loyalty to the country.
“Our love for the country should not be divided and it can be demonstrated in us flying the Jalur Gemilang,” he said. — Bernama
