KUNAK: Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Haji Abdal said the people should not hesitate to report their relatives to the authority if they pose a security threat to the country.
“Don’t be scared and keep quiet. We should not support and protect them. We helped them during their civil war when they came here to take refuge. Now they kill us,” he said yesterday.
Shafie, who is also Semporna member of parliament, also suggested that the people in Kunak should join Wataniah or RELA as they will know who are in their villages.
“We need more volunteers to boost the spirit to fight these intruders,” he said when visiting the fire victims in Kunak yesterday.
Over 100 squatter houses and 50 shophouses were destroyed in the fire at Kampung Pangkalan, Kunak on June 29.
Commenting on the Malaysia Airlines MH17 aircraft which was shot down in east Ukraine on Thursday, Shafie said he was surprised with what had happened as the plane was flying on its regular route.
There must be an understanding on the safety of commercial airline routes which must be adhered to, to provide safe passage for civilians, he said.
We are quite surprised with the incident; there is a conflict between Russia and Ukraine but it affected our aircraft, a commercial airline which I suppose everybody knows that it is a regular route for commercial airlines, he said.
I hope necessary action will be taken. We can’t say anything but some action would be taken, said Shafie.
