KOTA KINABALU: Three local women had to clamber to the top of a Honda Civic car after it crashed into a monsoon drain along Jalan Lintas with them inside, in front of the Ministry of Information Communication, Arts and Culture (MICAC) building in Kepayan yesterday.

The women, in their 20s, were said to be heading towards Kepayan from Lido when the driver lost control of the vehicle while, allegedly, trying to avoid hitting another vehicle. As a result the vehicle plunged into the monsoon drain filled with water up to about two metres deep at around 7.30 am.

The women managed to exit the car and clambered to the roof before passers-by came to their aid.

The women reportedly suffered only minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The submerged car was winced out of the drain with a crane at around 11 am on the same day.
