SANDAKAN: The government has no plan to extend the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to Sabah and Sarawak, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri.
She said for now there was no urgency for SPAD to be extended in Sabah and Sarawak as the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Boards (CVLB)of both states were still capable of managing public transportation there.
“Moreover, the two states do not have a comprehensive rail network. Sarawak has a small rail service while Sarawak has none,” she told reporters after visiting the Sandakan Court here yesterday.
She said that Sarawak had held a discussion with SPAD on its future transportation plan.
If SPAD plans to extend its operations to Sabah and Sarawak, it has to work closely with both states as they have their own land code, she added.
In another development, Nancy said the mobile court service in Sabah and Sarawak had been successful in addressing the problem of birth registration in interior areas. — Bernama
