KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCC) president Michael Lui has urged the relevant departments to issue a directive for oil and gas companies to increase the quota for diesel to fuel stations to ease the current shortage in the market.
Lui said he had received many complaints from KKCCCI members recently on the shortage of diesel, and that logistics, taxi, bus and tourism bus operators, construction and courier service operators were the most affected by the situation.
He said the diesel shortage had greatly affected normal trade operations, while some businesses had stopped.
Lui pointed out that the shortage could have been prevented if the relevant departments had tackled the issue early on and taken measures to improve or resolve the problem.
The KKCCC president urged the relevant departments to issue a directive to oil and gas companies to increase the diesel quota to fuel stations to ease the current shortage in order to prevent the deterioration of economic activities.
At the same time, he called on enforcement units to carry out their duties diligently to prevent the smuggling of diesel which would worsen the situation.
