PUTATAN: A 14-year-old boy was killed while crossing the road in front of One Place Mall, Putatan, along the Papar/Kota Kinabalu Road, on Wednesday.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while crossing the Putatan Road on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Mohd Rizaidi Rampunan succumbed to head and body injuries after he was knocked by a four-wheel-drive vehicle around 7.35pm on July 2.
It is believed that Mohd Rizaidi was crossing the road when the vehicle, believed heading to the city centre from Kinarut, knocked him down.
The boy was thrown a couple of meters due to the impact and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, Penampang police chief Deputy Superintendent Ratan Kumar Singh said the victim’s body had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post mortem.
He said the driver of the four-wheel-drive had been detained to facilitate police investigation.
Singh also urged eyewitness to come forward to assist police in their investigation, which is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
