TAWAU: The recent kidnapping cases along the East Coast of Sabah should be considered a global phenomenon that must be addressed by all nations because of the culprits’ links who are always on the prowl to fund militant and terrorism activities, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman.
He said these are threats to all civilised nations and in Sabah, all appreciate the United StateS’ concerns in these aspects.
He stated this in his speech which was delivered by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan in a welcoming dinner for the official visit of Lieutenant General Terry Robling, US Marines Corp Forces Pacific Commander at a hotel here last night. The dinner was hosted by the Defence Minister and the state government.
“Kidnapping cases have put the state in the limelight for the wrong reasons. Cross border crimes like piracy and kidnap-for-ransom cases should not be viewed as isolated incidents.
“Be assured on our part, the state government will do all it can to shoulder the negative impact and push it back on its track but at the same time we welcome all the help that come our way,” said Musa.
“Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein’s visit here provides us with a strong assurance of the Federal Government’s concerns on the safety and security of the state, particularly the east coast of Sabah,” he continued.
He hoped the visit of Lieutenant General Robling could provide the latter with better understanding of Sabah’s security concerns.
Musa disclosed that the task to put up a defence wall against enemies has not been an easy ride given the vast area of coverage which includes the 1,700km coastal stretch.
