KOTA KIANABLU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth chief Tsang Hieng Yee said Sabah seemed to be facing difficulties in dealing with the recent recurring kidnapping cases despite the many new efforts being introduced into ESSCom.

“It is as though the kidnappers are challenging us because they would carry out a new kidnapping each time we declare our confidence in our security and ESSCOM.

“Solving these kidnapping activities may not be easy as they are assisted by local Sabahan (insiders) which is also not impossible.

“Since we have now confidently concluded that the kidnapping incidents were carried out with the help of ‘inside men’ and that this work of the “inside men” is the main reason that hampers our effort to stop kidnapping, and it is probably wise for us to redirect our focus on this real cause of the problem.

“Since information and assistance are provided to the gunmen by people who have been here in Sabah for a long time, either with or without MyKad, any costly improvement or revamp of ESSCOM may not be the direct answer to the problem, albeit they are still helpful to a certain extent.

“We ought to take a quick and effective actions to deal with the presence of the Pentadang Tanpa Izin (PTI) among us. There shall be no further delay.

“As lay Sabahans, we may not have the sufficient expertise to offer opinion or comment as to what amounts to effective steps that ought to be taken by the government in order to solve the problem posted by the PTI and this shall be the job of the few expert agencies that are forming ESSCom.

“However, we could definitely point out that the underlying and fundamental source of all the kidnapping cases is this group of unregulated PTI community within us, hence, regulating or organizing this group of community invariably will become a vital part in our effort to curb the kidnapping threat once and for all,” he said.

Tsang said the Federal Government and the State Government must, therefore, expedite in releasing the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry which was set up to investigate Sabah’s illegal immigrants and act quickly to find and exercise solution to the problem.
