TAWAU: A 47-year-old Indonesian man was detained on Tuesday for allegedly raping his own daughter.
Tawau police chief, ACP Awang Besar Dullah, said the suspect was detained at a workers’ quarters at Bergosong Estate, Sebatik Island at about 6.30 pm.
He said the arrest was made following a report lodged by a 19-year-old girl that on June 12 at about 8 pm at Ladang Teck Guan, Teboyok area, she was raped by her own father while on the way back to the workers’ quarters. She claimed that she was threatened with harm and had made the report because she was hit by her father.
Awang said the case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl was killed in a road accident at about 11 am yesterday after she was hit by a Isuzu D-Max vehicle in front of the Temporary Detention Centre at North Road.
Awang said the victim was identified as Pundia binti Mulpi from Kampung Bangau-Bangau, Semporna. The victim, who had no identification documents, was hit after she suddenly crossed the road. She died as a result of severe head injuries.
He said the Isuzu vehicle was driven by an off-duty policeman who was on his way to town when the incident occurred.
