KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is suitable for agricultural investments, especially in Chinese traditional herbs plantation, due to its fertile soil and tropical climate, said Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) president Datuk Michael Lui.

Lui said the State Government encouraged foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Sabah, including in the Malaysia My Second Home scheme.

“We hope more Chinese will come here to invest and stay. Some bumiputeras here have gone through Chinese education, they can understand and speak a little Mandarin,” he said during a dialogue with the delegates from Chenghai Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong, led by its president, Chen Yanwen, yesterday.

The dialogue was organized by Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah branch.

Lui said the tourism industry in Sabah had taken off in recent years, and Chinese tourists loved coming here.

He also informed that our fertile soil would be suitable for the Chinese to invest in agriculture, such as planting Chinese traditional herbs.

In conjunction with the 40 years of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China this year, Lui said the dialogue would help to build a good foundation for future exchanges.

“I believe MCCC will be able to promote deeper ties between Malaysia and China, especially more exchanges between entrepreneurs in both countries.”

Meanwhile, MCCC Sabah branch vice president Datuk Tan Tiang Lai urged the delegates to visit the shopping malls in Kota Kinabalu to survey the products and market here.

He said up to 90 per cent of the products sold at shopping malls were sourced from China.

“These products are priced three to five times more than in China.”

In terms of the property market, Tan encouraged the delegates to acquire a residential unit here.

“Of all the states in Malaysia, Sabah has the most harmonious culture. The major three races here can sit together, which is very unique.

“West Malaysians and foreigners alike love staying in Sabah,” Tan said.
