KOTA KINABALU: Sabah United Chinese Chambers Of Commerce (SUCCC) president, Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah, hopes to see the setting up of Chinese chambers in all 24 districts in the State.
When the 24 Chinese chambers join SUCCC, Gan said, it would be the largest constituent chamber member of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), thus fortifying SUCCC’s representation in ACCCIM.
He added that the SUCCC constitution stipulates that any district-level Chinese chamber is qualified to apply to be a constituent chamber of SUCCC.
Gan said this during a courtesy call on him by the Tenom Chinese Chamber of Commerce (TCCC) here yesterday. The aim of the courtesy call was to invite Gan to be the guest of honour for the TCCC installation ceremony on August 16 this year, to which Gan has graciously agreed to attend.
TCCC have also invited the minister of rural development, Datuk Radin Malleh, Tenom MP, Datuk Raime Unggi, Chinese chamber and local community leaders and government officers to the event.
Gan said TCCC, which has a long history, has played an important role in SUCCC, besides its immense contributions to the united chambers.
“We need TCCC’s support and cooperation to serve Chinese businesses and community more effectively under a united SUCCC,” he said.
Gan also stressed on the importance for a leader to have a sense of responsibility and to strive to do his or her best.
Upon taking over the role as SUCCC president, Gan said, he had delved into the joint development project between The Sabah United Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu and the SUCCC.
“I will not discard the decisions of the former committee and supervisory committees, but I will not follow blindly either,” he said, adding that the present committee should amend those decisions deemed unsuitable in regard to the development project.
He added that SUCCC will be hosting ACCCIM Annual General Meeting (AGM) next year and urged TCCC and other constituent chambers to give their fullest cooperation to ensure the success of the event.
Present during the courtesy call were TCCC president, Kapitan Yong Chung Ngee, vice presidents, Kapitan Wong Tet Yun and Ng Giok Kiong, , Lu Chee Heng, secretary, Kapitan Yong Yaw Chen, chairman of supervisory committee, Kapitan Liew Foh Sin and vice chairman of supervisory committee, Fong Fui Chee.
