KENINGAU: The Kaamatan Festival held at Kampung Tudan Baru here recently was celebrated in a simple but very festive way.
Villagers who attended the celebration as early as 8am, were dressed in the traditional costumes of the Kadazan, Dusun and Murut (KDM) communities, thereby showing appreciation and love for the festival which is a cultural heritage from their ancestors.
The people, including children and teenagers, who dressed traditionally were very happy and proud that their cultures continue to be treasured.
Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Ahmud Haji Saribin, praised the spirit shown by the villagers who continued to appreciate the KDM traditional costumes as a dress theme for the festival.
He said the traditional costumes were in line with the festival as the costumes showed the real KDM identity.
“I hope the spirit of friendship and unity continues to be strengthened so that our village will be peaceful, united and prosperous,” he said.
Ahmud also thanked the people of this village who had always cooperated in programs organized by the village leaders in their efforts to enhance the spirit of cooperation and unity.
He said as a model village in the district, the community should strengthen the spirit of consensus and friendship in creating an atmosphere of goodwill and harmony.
Various events were held for the parents, youth, teenagers, and children including tug-of-war, apple eating, cake eating, relay, lawn bowling using coconuts, and others.
The event was organized by the Vision Village Movement (GDW) Women’s Affairs which will also celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day on June 3 at the village hall.
