KENINGAU: Seventeen-year-old Shanoefen Ilon, from Kampung Bingkor Baru, was crowned Unduk Ngadau (beauty queen) during the Keningau Mall Kaamatan Festival held at the shopping centre here recently.
Shanoefen took home a cash prize of RM300, crown, sash, trophy, a bouquet of flowers, hamper and certificate of participation.
Lydia Joseph, 17, from Kampung Kiulu Baru Sook, came in second while Cellawina Vanessa, 15, from Kampung Nauntunan Apin-Apin Keningau was in third place.
Lydia took home a cash prize of RM200, trophy, a bouquet of flowers, hamper and certificate of participation while Cellawina received a cash prize of RM150, trophy, a bouquet of flowers, hamper and certificate of participation.
Four consolation prize recipients were Suzie Ana, 16, from Nabawan; Carren Vivian, 16, from Kampung Bingkor Keningau; Saintella Goh, 16, from Kampung Bundu Kuala Penyu; and Daisy Julin, 16, from Kampung Mansiat Trusmadi Sook.
They each received RM100 cash prize, trophy, a bouquet of flowers, hamper and certificate of participation The rest each received RM30 cash, medal stand, mini hamper, flowers and a certificate of participation.
Keningau Mall Manager, Tracey Liew, said it has been the tradition of the shopping centre management to hold the Kaamatan celebration every year.
“All the festivals celebrated in Malaysia were also featured as an annual event of Keningau Mall Management with the aim of rewarding and appreciating our customers in the Interior,” she said.
Various entertainment and cultural events were held. Among them were Mansayau dance from SK Patikang Laut, Ethnic Dance from SK Bunga Raya and Igal-Igal dance besides singing performance by Polly Pung who sang a Kadazandusun song, Iso Malaysia while Joyce sang Sopi Rosi Rosi.
All prizes were presented by Tracey, Marie Christine, Magdalene Sandy and Joyce Junaidi..
