KOTA KINABALU: A devastating storm that hit Sabah’s west coast yesterday left 23,000 consumers without electricity for at least two hours, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) reported today.

SESB senior general manager (asset management) Ahmad Fuad Md Kasim said power was disrupted at 9.42 am and was only restored in stages from 11.45 am.

Huge trees uprooted by the storm knocked over power lines and damaged electricity poles, he said in a statement.

Ahmad Fuad said SESB augmented its staff on standby and utilised mobile generator sets to reduce the impact of electricity disruption in the affected areas while repairs were carried out.

Areas left without electricity were Kota Kinabalu city, Penampang, Putatan, Inanam, Likas, Menggatal, Tuaran, Tamparuli and Kiulu, he said.

Ahmad Fuad said consumers could contact the hotline 15454 or 088-515000 if they experienced electricity disruption.

He also said that an SMS service was available, and consumers could type SESBR <space> name and complaint and send to 33154. – Bernama
