KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun and his assistant Datuk Pang Yuk Ming shared the joy of Ramadan by breaking fast with 23 orphans from Rumah Putera Harapan Ranau at The Square Restaurant, Novotel.

Co-hosted by Novotel and Adabi on the second day of Ramadan on Thursday, the orphaned children, who traveled from Ranau, got the chance to enjoy a variety of food from the hotel’s restaurant.

Masidi has called on more private companies to follow Novotel and Adabi’s footstep to initiate their corporate social responsibility (CSR) by getting closer or helping the needy people in Sabah.

“As we know Sabah is very fortunate having a multi-racial society living in peace and harmony, and at the same time enjoying a developing economy from time to time.

“With the profit these companies obtained from Sabah, why not channel it back to the needy people. Ramadhan month is the best time to initiate the CSR programme as we believe Ramadhan is a holy month for the Muslims,” said Masidi.

He said it was the second time that Novotel has hosted a breaking of fast event with the children from Rumah Putera Harapan and hoped the event will be an annual contribution from the hotel.

After breaking fast, Masidi performed Maghrib prayers followed by Isyak at the hotel. He also handed over hampers from Adabi to the children of Rumah Putera Harapan Ranau.
