KOTA KINABALU: The hunt is now on for Miss and Mr Malaysia Borneo Tourism.

The beauty contest, which are being organized as part of the Malaysia Borneo Cultural Festival to be held in Kuala Lumpur on May 7-10, are different from the normal beauty pageants as they feature a contest for the most handsome young male.

The Sabah communication director for the organizer, Dr Azlina Ekat, said the contest for a male beauty is intended to showcase the complete package of Malaysian beauties.

“Most of the time the focus is on female beauty while male beauty is normally presented in the form of muscled body builders,” Dr Azlina said.

“It’s time to recognize the existence of the normal male side of Malaysian beauty. After all the handsome and well-proportioned male is an essential complement to the female beauty in all aspects of modern life such as in entertainment like fashion, stage, screen arts and, not the least in the corporate scenes.”

Dr Azlina believes that this more inclusive beauty contest format will attract more audience because of the innovation and novelty.

She also announced that the door is open to all aspiring participants from both sexes to be chosen to grace the stage with the opening of the audition sessions at Le Meridien Hotel here beginning tomorrow (March 15-16) from 9am to 5pm. The finale of the contests will be at the Malaysian Tourism Centre at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, from May 7 to 10.

Dr Azlina also reminds that the Malaysia Borneo Cultural Festival is itself an innovative new concept of a cultural event as it had never been done before in the national capital.

Organized to promote tourism trade in conjunction with the visit Malaysia Year 2014, it will also be a showcase of cultural heritages from the Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak.

The event, which is endorsed by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, is an inaugural event with the aim to build unity, understanding and strong bond between Malaysians in line with the 1Malaysia concept.

“One of our aims is also to promote harmony and understanding between people of the Peninsula and those in Sabah and Sarawak,” Dr Azlina explained.

“This is because there are still many wrong perceptions about Sabah and Sarawak among people of the Peninsula. As such we the organizers are appealing to all segments of the society to give support to this noble effort with collaboration between NGOs and private-sector contributors from the three regions.

“The organizing committee has strong faith in the good grace and generosity of government agencies, corporations and individuals who wish to be associated with this event of ‘national integrity’ theme,” she added.

“We look forward to your participation and we thank you in advance for your generous support in making Malaysia Borneo Cultural Festival 2014 a successful and remarkable occasion.”
