KOTA KINABALU: The Human Resources Ministry wants feedback from the public, employers and employees to boost the implementation of minimum wages.
Its minister Datuk Richard Riot said this was to improve the implementation of the scheme as the government was serious in creating a win-win situation.
“As the scheme is reviewed biennially, I urge employers and workers to give their feedback and views to the Secretariat of the National Wages Consultative Council, latest by April 30.”
He said this at a media conference in conjunction with the launch of the Sabah-level Minimum Wage Clinic here yesterday.
Riot added it was still early to take any action because the implementation of minimum wage of RM800 in Sabah and Sarawak, and RM900 in the peninsula took effect only in January.
“The ministry will not take action until the review, and this is our stand. We have received more than 1,000 complaints from employers and employees,” he noted.
Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, the Manpower Department has received 961 complaints on the failure of employers to implement the minimum wages nationwide, as of December.
“Any worker who is yet to be paid the minimum pay should go to the nearest Department of Labour to file a claim,” said Riot in a statement here. — Bernama
