KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will be hosting a three-day National Landscape Day celebration from March 1 to 3 at the Likas Bay Public Park.

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Landscap Mapan Bandar Sejahtera’, reflecting DBKK’s effort in implementing its 5K agenda on Cleanliness, Beautification, Safety, Orderliness and Harmony.

“We are thankful for the trust from the National Landscape Department of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in choosing DBKK to host this year’s National Landscape Day. We believe this is an appreciation for us in our continued effort to improve the landscape of Kota Kinabalu city.

“We are inviting members of the public to participate in this important event, which will start as early as 8am daily until 10pm,” he said.

On the first day of the event (March 1, Saturday), there will colouring, drawing, mural and beach karaoke competitions organized by DBKK. Apart from that, a number of activities such as landscapes clinic, Zumba, mini concert, exhibition, health screening and also busking performances are open for public participation.

On the second day, the event will start with a Zumba exercise at 8am, followed by flower decoration competition, fire and rescue demonstrations, karaoke and busking performances until night.

“The formal event will be held on March 3, where the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman, is expected to attend as a guest of honour to launch the celebration.

“Entertainment and exhibition on the third day will end at 1pm after the launching ceremony. We hope the public will come and join us in celebrating this event,” he said during a press conference at City Hall yesterday.

Also present were National Landscape Department director general Esa Ahmad, and DBKK director general Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

Esa said the objective of the event is to perpetuate interest and awareness in the art of landscaping as well as to stimulate development of quality landscape in Malaysia.

“This is the first time Sabah is hosting this event, and we are hoping that the public will understand the sources of the landscaping works, and how our department has contributed to the positive impact in our developing nation. The three-day event is important for us, and we are hoping the public will gain a lot of information from the workshop, talk and clinic that we have planned,” Esa said.

Five speakers will talk at the event on March 1, namely, Dr Jualang Azlan Gansau of University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), YM Raja Saiful Rizal Raja Jaafar of National Landscape Department, Cik Shahida of UMS, Shaziatul Mat Kasiri and Intan Maisarah Razali of National Landscape Department from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
