KOTA KINABALU: The Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry will assist the local authorities in flood stricken districts in Sabah to repair the damaged infrastructure.
Its minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, said, however, that the ministry would require a detailed report from the local authorities concerned on the damages and the repairs needed in their respective areas.
Abdul Rahman, who was contacted after his visit to Beaufort recently, said that the local authorities will be conducting their flood damage evaluation after the water has receded and then submit their reports to his ministry for further action.
“At the moment, the Fire and Rescue Services Department, which is under my ministry, is doing all it can to assist the flood victims by using its equipment to distribute aid to the villagers who did not have time to evacuate and are stranded,” he said.
“We will only know the extent of the damages once the flood subsides,” he added.
