TAMPARULI: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor urged residents of the Tuaran district which include Tamparuli and Kiulu to show a good example to others in terms of unity and harmony.
Referring to the presence of opposition Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Wilfred
Bumburing at the Tuaran District Chinese New Year celebration here on Saturday night, Hajiji stressed that Sabahans should not let their political differences undo the racial unity and religious harmony that our forefathers fought hard to put in place.
“Politics is politics. Festivity is festivity. We should not let politics get in the way of fostering unity and racial and religious harmony. After all, the Chinese New Year is just a cultural festival,” he stated while welcoming Bumburing to the event. His statement received a tremendous applause.
Bumburing is a former UPKO deputy president and Tuaran member of parliament which he won on a Barisan Nasional ticket in 2008. He however left UPKO in 2012 and stood on a
PKR ticket in Tuaran and Tamparuli last year. He lost Tuaran but won Tamparuli.
Praising Sabahans for their maturity, Hajiji said even the Prime Minister had acknowledged that Sabah has been practising the 1Malaysia concept since long ago.
He added that Sabahans should treasure the peace and harmony that the State Government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Hj Aman fought hard to achieve.
