KOTA KINABALU: Comprehensive understanding towards Islamic teachings is needed to ensure there is no misunderstanding among Muslims, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin.

He said Islam is a religion which guides the people to truth and gives peace to the world.

“This is the rational of Islam, entrust religion to those who are qualified and competent to handle various problems and conflicts among the Muslims.

“As Muslims, we have the responsibility to look after ourselves and also the other brothers and sisters to ensure unity and peace,” he said at the district-level Maulidur Rasul 1435/2014 celebration at Putatan Multipurpose Hall, yesterday.

Earlier, Yahya and his wife Datin Seri Panglima Siti Jouyah Md.Yunin, Putatan District Officer Ag.Abdul Ghani Pg.Yusoff and more than 3,000 Muslims marched from Putatan District Mosque to the multipurpose hall as part of the celebration.

During his speech, Yahya, who is also the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry urged all parties especially parents to ensure the younger generation are well equipped with religious education.

He said education will allow children to understand more about the responsibilities as a Muslim, a religion that always gives priority to success.
