KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah secretary Dr Edwin Bosi said Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok’s Chinese New Year greeting video clip is very catchy, thought-provoking and amusing.

He said the video presentation is just another angle in raising issues affecting our nation. The video brings a message that Malaysia is now facing many problems vis-a-vis the rising costs of living, the poor educational standard and the security of the country, especially in Sabah, among others.

“I did not see any portion of the video that belittles or makes fun of our security forces. I would urge the people to view the video and make your own assessment,” he said.

Bosi said the video is an enjoyable viewing and he hoped the government will look at it positively, especially the messages, and then find a solution to the problems or concerns raised in the video.

“I have viewed videos that poke fun on the government and opposition alike and for me they were not only enjoyable but they also brought awareness to the issues faced by the people,” he added.

Former DAP state vice chairman Edward Ewol Mujie, however, has taken exception to the video.

Mujie said the presentation of the video clip, though meant as satire, was made in bad taste and can be regarded as insulting to Sabahans in general, adding that such inconsiderate act was an embarrassment to Malaysians, especially during the Chinese New Year.

He said Kok could do well to raise and highlight the situation prevailing in Selangor regarding the Pakatan Rakyat government as she was one of the senior excos for over five years in the Selangor PR government, instead of hurting the feelings of Sabahans.

Saying that the matter is not a joke, Mujie asked the Seputeh MP to apologise to the people of Sabah and Malaysia.

Mujie hopes the police will carry out an immediate investigation into this matter and take the appropriate action.

Kok has come under fire for the 12-minute video which featured a guest who mocked Lahad Datu folks on luring tourists to the country, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

It allegedly also contains sarcastic remarks that ridiculed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Naib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

One of the guests, Yan Yan, when asked about Visit Malaysia Year 2014 was alleged to have said: “But then, you can travel to Sabah, where you get to see pirates, with a bonus show of kidnapping and scenes of open fire.”

Kok denied that the video clip insulted Malays, the security forces, Prime Minister and his wife.

The DAP national vice-chairperson said the video, titled One-derful Malaysia, was meant to be humorous and directed at those who spoke Mandarin and Cantonese.
