KOTA KINABALU: A Form Five student is feared to have drowned after he and his friends went for a dip at a lake near the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Sepanggar.
It was learnt that the 17-year-old victim, Mohd Alnold Amin, had gone to the lake with five of his friends at around 4pm yesterday.
The Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Services Department received a distress call at 4.10pm and arrived at the scene 30 minutes later.
A search and rescue operation was then conducted by fifteen personnel from the Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire departments to locate the missing student.
However, as the bottom of the lake was filled with tree branches and nets, visibility was hampered in the search for the missing student.
The search operation was subsequently called off at 6 pm yesterday and would resume at 7am today (Jan 27).
