KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has called on the people to remain united and continue strengthening the harmony and peace they have enjoyed all this while.
Speaking at the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival here yesterday, he said the solidarity among people of various ethnic and religious backgrounds in Sabah has remained solid, but it still has room for improvement.
“It is my wish that we will see a better year ahead, one that will bring us good tidings and closer ties,” Musa said in his officiating speech at the annual event held in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year.
The event held at the Likas Sports Complex multipurpose hall attracted some 10,000 people of various ethnicities who came to see the performances from over 80 teams representing various associations and organisations.
Commending the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association (USCCA) for organising the event yet again, he said their efforts would help promote the tradition and culture of the Chinese communities in Sabah to be enjoyed and celebrated together with those of other ethnicities.
This was not only in tandem with the State’s commitment to promoting and preserving racial unity, but could also contribute towards the development of the tourism industry in Kota Kinabalu, Musa said.
“Through a festival such as this, followed by the carnival to be held at Gaya Street, the festive mood of the Chinese New Year celebration is felt not only by every citizen of Kota Kinabalu, but also the tourists.
“The Chinese New Year is just around the corner and we are already feeling a sense of celebration.
“This is an opportunity for us to exchange greetings, regardless of our backgrounds, and enhance the ties and solidarity among the people.
“This is the true essence of 1Malaysia that Sabah is proud to be a model of,” he said.
