
The victim’s body was found inside the drain yesterday after he was involved in a road accident on Tuesday.
KOTA KINABALU: A local man who was reported missing after he was involved in a road accident on Tuesday was found dead inside a drain along Coastal Road, near Grace Court Apartment in Sembulan, here yesterday morning.
The body of Nelson Thien Hua Keong, 33, from Papar but residing in Damai, Luyang, was found by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) sub-contractors inside the drain, about four feet deep, around 11am yesterday.
It was said that the victim was involved in a road accident after the Perodua Viva car he was driving with a friend skidded off the road around 2am on January 14.
It was also said that the victim’s friend managed to walk out from the vehicle, with minor injuries, but was unable to find the victim.
Thinking that the victim had walked home, the friend then left the area, abandoning the vehicle at the scene.
It was later learnt that the victim’s wife had lodged a police report the following day claiming that her husband was involved in a road accident and he had not returned home.
The victim’s partly decomposed body was found yesterday inside the drain around 11am.
City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun contacted confirmed the case and said the identity of the victim was confirmed by family members who were at the scene.
He said the body had been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
Jauteh urged eyewitnesses to come forward to assist police in their investigation of the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
