KOTA KINABALU: Karambunai LDP chief Loretto Padua Jr yesterday insisted that former party president Datuk VK Liew should be given a copy of the letter from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) endorsing the party’s AGM on Oct 19 and 20 last year.
The letter also endorsed Datuk Teo Chee Kang as LDP president and the new leadership of the party that were elected during the AGM.
Loretto who was replying to LDP secretary general Yong Vui Chung’s statement that certain quarters were still trying to mislead party members about the leadership issue, said the new leadership should stop covering their illegality with a piece of letter which has no legal standing..
“Until this statement being issued, Datuk VK Liew has still not received any letter from the ROS. Yong Wui Chung should understand that being an interested party, Datuk VK has the right to have a copy of the said letter or any explanation letter from the ROS ? what makes it so hard to disclose the said letter?
“It is their (Datuk Teo) actions which had mislead and confused the members. It is the members who want to know the content of the letter and its validity as the majority of them know that the ROS could not issue such letter. They also want to know why the ROS had not extended a copy of the said letter to Datuk VK, or replied to Datuk VK’s letters?” Loretto said.
He was of the opinion that it was unfair to ask Datuk VK to accept the decision by the ROS through a letter which has no legal standing.
“You cannot legalise what is already illegal. The issue of Datuk Teo’s removal should be dealt first. Instead of asking members to go to the party headquarters to have a look at the letter themselves, it is Datuk Teo’s duty to explain to the members the content of the said letter and the reasons that led the ROS to make the finding.
“They owe the members an explanation. Why is it so hard for them to deal with this matter crystal clear?” he asked
