LAHAD DATU: Six people are still missing after a boat ferrying nine people and food supplies capsized in Tahau waters off the Philippines.
District police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat said three crew members of the boat who drifted to Tambisan off Malaysian waters had been rescued and were receiving treatment at the district hospital.
Shamsudin said the boat departed about 9pm on January 9 from the Philippines before capsizing in Tahau waters.
“The boat was carrying a cargo of 21 tons of rice, a ton of oil and 100 boxes of instant noodles as well as nine crew members.
“The boat is believed to have drifted to our waters as two of the crew were rescued in Tambisan waters about 6pm on Sunday and another was saved at Maruap Beach about 2pm yesterday,” he added.
Shamsudin said the search and rescue operation was still ongoing for six of the crew with the assistance of the General Operation Force, Fire and Rescue Department, and Civil Defence Department.
He added that those who have any information about the incident or have recovered any victims along the coastal area may report to the nearest police station or call 089-881 255.
