KOTA KINABALU: The government will build integrated bus and taxi terminals in all towns and cities in Malaysia, including Sabah, in the next five years.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Hajah Nancy Haji Shukri said this was the government’s commitment to ensure a more efficient service for the people.

She said upgrading public transportation system for the convenience and comfort of the people was one of the seven National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) under the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).

Nancy said this at the launching of Salam Bumimas Sdn Bhd express bus service here yesterday. The event was graced by the Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang, who represented the Chief Minister.

She urged the people to take the opportunity to forge public-private partnership in efforts to provide the best service to the people, like the express bus service by Salam Bumimas.

Nancy said the express bus service would give passengers an alternative option for travel, adding that road transport enabled tourists to enjoy the beauty of Sabah.

She said the locals would also indirectly benefit with more road transport users.

“We hope that business operators such as handicraft, traditional food and others will take the opportunity to diversify the local products that they commercialize,” she added.
