KOTA KINABALU: A fire alarm went off at the Standard Chartered Bank in Jalan Haji Saman here yesterday sending some 20 staff running out from the building.
Only black smoke was seen coming out from the main switch of an air-conditioning unit, believed caused by a short-circuit, but the bank staff were asked to evacuate the building immediately around 4pm.
Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said the department received a distress call at 4.07pm and nine firefighters in a fire engine and three rapid intervention motorcycles were dispatched to the scene within minutes.
“Only smoke was seen coming out from the main switch of the air-con,” he said when contacted.
He said firefighters at the scene carried out inspections and found no fire inside the building.
Mohd Affendy added no unwanted incident happened and the bank staff were allowed to enter the building about 30 minutes later.
