KOTA KINABALU: Cosmopoint College of Technology had a double joyous celebration last night as they welcomed the coming Christmas season by making it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).

Students at the College’s second campus along Jalan Tuaran By-Pass here made the institution proud after MBR officially endorsed their creation as the country’s tallest Christmas tree made of recycled bottles.

The tree measuring 16 meters in height and 10 meters wide was constructed with 6,590 used plastic bottles and decorated with 2,000 light bulbs, bubbles and trinkets.

It took about 100 members of the College’s Student Consumer Club nearly 14 days to complete the tree, which did not use a single nail.

“The tree was constructed with the aim of celebrating togetherness and the 1Malaysia spirit in conjunction with Christmas. This project also magnifies that with teamwork, the sky is the limit,” said Head of Sales for Cosmopoint KK, Johnney Tindik.

The tree will be put on display in front of the college until January 18, to remind the students and passers-by of the noble message behind it.

Inanam Assemblyman Roland Chia Ming Shen graced the official lighting up and MBR endorsement of the tree.

Also present were Cosmopoint’s senior officers led by Head of Operation, Hamidy Masbak.
