KOTA KINABALU: Villagers at Kampung Sembulan are appealing to the state government to extend their land leases so that they may continue living there.
Their spokesman, Kassim bin Busuk, said the villagers were worried as some of their leases would expire soon, but the government had not granted extensions.
“We are appealing to the state government, especially Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, to assist us in this matter. We are not against any development in our village as long as we still have the right to our land.
“We are optimistic that with the proposed development in our village, it will help us to eradicate all negative impressions on Kampung Sembulan, which has been synonymous with social problems, especially in central and old Sembulan,” he said in a press statement yesterday.
The area has been gazetted as a Malay village reserve.
